Renee points the finger at Mary-Kate Olsen for her weight loss.
Renee Zellweger has blamed Mary-Kate Olsen, the actress she tried to befriend, for embroiling her in a scandalous 'anorexia epidemic'.
The Bridget Jones star tells friends she saw how much Mary-Kate was suffering on a starvation diet then became "inexplicably hooked" herself. A recent lunch meeting is said to have ended in tears as the pair swapped four-letter insults.
Renee, fuming, reportedly stormed: "You are a silly cow - if it wasn't for you I would never have let this happen to me. I don't want you as a friend."
Now down to a shocking 44.4kg on her 162cm frame, Renee has adopted a bizarre 'goth look' to mask the extent of her weight loss. "She's has it with the constant criticism over her weight," friend Tori Ellison says. "She's trying something new - long dark hair and pale make-up - but it doesn't suit Renee at all. She made $14.5 million for the new movie, but the role is messing wiith Renee. She went from a size 6 to a size 14 to reprise the role of busty Bridget Jones and afterwards had to lose the weight fast to get back to normal.
"She got back to normal but couldn't stop - it's all hush-hush, but she's gripped in what's turned out to be a terrifying battle. She got down to 52kg but still wasn't satisfied. Now she's eating like a bird and doens't look healthy.
Mary-Kate is bitterly upset after Renee refused to take her calls, and the teen star resorted to leaving a string of emotional messages on her answering machine. "A catfight erupted," a mutual friend says. "Mary-Kate has pointed out the fact that she could not have been responsible for this bizarre knock-on effect. They were once quite close, but Renee doesn't want to know Mary-Kate now. She's trying to cut her out of her life."
A source also adds that unlike the many women who eats when they're stressed, Renee responds by not eating.
Mary-Kate's father Dave has tried to intervene in the row, saying she is progresing well after a two-year battle with anorexia, and doesn't want anything to trigger a setback.
But Renee is standing firm.
"Renee wants to be at the top of the A-list, like Nicole Kidman or Catherine Zeta-Jones, and nothing's going to stand in her way," Tori says. "She's yoyo dieted so many times, but this time she's going too far."
